Lauren Young Profile Photo

Dr. Lauren Young combines practical policy experience in national security with a political scientist’s perspective on current threats to democracy.

Drawing on recently unclassified historical documents in the UK’s National and Royal Archives, her book Hitler’s Girl paints a chilling portrait of an England more sympathetic to Nazism than previously known.

The parallels Dr. Young draws between the rise of fascism in the 1930s and the political climate of the 2020s sound a dire warning, and enable this generation to identify and fight creeping authoritarianism in our own politics and culture. With a resurgent far right in America, authoritarian governments in Russia and a rising Far Right in Europe, and the swift and alarming rise of antisemitic sentiment across the world, her message stands as a much-needed challenge and warning to voters today.

A recipient of numerous teaching awards, Dr. Young holds degrees from Yale, King’s College, University of London, and has worked on a recent book with Ukraine’s Ministry of Social Policy.
